OK, now I am interested. I will PM you my email address; if I ever had your email address, I have lost it. I want a full debrief on the M8 from someone who I trust as a truth teller. Pros, cons and differences between the early touring and later. I may be in the market for another bike later this year and thinking on an '09-'10 FLHX as a project bike; suspension upgrades and build a 124" motor on the OEM cases. Another option is a later touring model M8, upgrade exhaust, intake, cams and tune and just ride. I would love to hear your thoughts.

I missed a picture of the what was holding the valves open. With the cylinder off you can see the valve to valve clearance is plenty. My old modeling clay finally turned into a rock so had to replace it..

I am loving this thread.
How do you hold the piston at deck height when doing this?

I don't bother, I just push the piston in till it touches the head. Can add the piston to deck clearance to the clay adjusting for the angles. For instance, the edge of the intake pocket angle is 28 degrees. 0.035 piston deck will add about 0.016" clearance. These pistons provide plenty piston to valve clearance.

I'll toss out a little more.. One thing I like to do is coat the inside of the cylinder with Marvel Mistry Oil and wipe it with a white paper towel. When it comes out grey, coat and repeat until the towel comes out pink.. I've pretty much always used MMO for cylinders but the wiping with paper towel cam from a magazine. IIRC it was Hot Rod Bikes..

I have a home made clip installer...
