Default 05 88tc cam upgrade cost

Hey guys new here and im looking for some advise.

I have an 05 road king with roughly 15k miles and im looking to do a cam swap on it. I checked the cam chain tensioner today and everything looks great but since I opened the cover I now want to do a cam swap. im not afraid to spend money to do the swap but what's the most economical way to get what I want? Im looking for an aggressive cam that's "bolt in" without needing valve springs. I was looking at Andrew's 37N cams are they any good? And how can I go about this without just buying a kit and what is absolutely necessary to do a swap like cam plate, oil pump etc or can I get away with reusing the cam plate and oil pump and just throw new bearings and cams in. Im not sure how to go about this and id like input. Thanks

Spend the first $100 on a factory service manual

You don`t "need" a new plate or pump. Cams / Bearings / Gasket and O-ring set / Exhaust gaskets / Cyco shoes / Tools to do the work are the only "must haves"

If you retain your stock push rods you save some money but will need to remove the rocker boxes. This will allow you to address any oil seeps as well as service the breathers and install Rocker Lockers or Rock Outs should you choose to do so

At 15K miles new lifters are optional, I would replace because " you`re in there"

I have read here that `05s have questionable valve seals. ( you do not mention oil consumption as a problem ) How prevalent that is or how many miles they last is a question for others later in the day Pulling the heads to address this is more time / labor

S&S 509 or Andrews equivalent are usually suggested as 'bolt in" for stock compression but I will leave that for the more experienced

Good to hear thanks. Can I reuse the chains? Im a diesel mechanic so my mechanical ability is good I just want to know how much I can reuse as I'd hate to waste some stuff with only 15k miles. Ive been reading about cams and I just don't want to upgrade to ones that are marginally larger than the stock ones. I also tend to ride higher in the rpms and crank on the gas alot and id like hard take off from a stand still and pulling through the rpm range
also can someone give me a link to the cyco shoes as I can't find the correct part please

Seeing how the bike had only averaged 1000 miles a year, and the chains have been polished by now. I think you're safe to reuse them.

You're kinda asking a lot of a bolt in cam. Low end, top end, mid range. Your components need to work together... cam, pipes, AC, compression, etc. You'd do well to spend some time on the phone with Fuel Moto or another top shop & get some guidance.

Good luck!

Yea I know sorry im cramming everything into one expectation. The bike currently has a Rhinehart true dual exhaust,pc5,screaming eagle air filter. I guess if I had to pick one thing I want the cam to do is have better pulling off the line. And I appreciate all of the advise on this. I also checked the cam chain and it is smooth with no burrs. Im just the type of person that just can't leave anything stock lol.

As has been suggested, S&S509 or Andrews 26; IMHO, if you want "pulling off the line" the 509 would be my pick. Andrews 37 will be soft off the line and if you did want the 37 you would want the TW37, not the 37N which is a conversion cam. Post #2 covers the subject very well; bearings were referenced which would include both inner and outer bearings.

I spoke to fuel moto as suggested and thanks for that. They recommended the woods tw-6 cams due to the exhaust im running and anything more aggressive would not due well and he said id have to rev at 3500 rpm off the line to get the bike going. They also stated the same where im able to keep everything other than pushrods and lifters. Thanks for the help guys and sorry for repeating myself. The kit runs $750 plus a tuner I would need to adjust timing and fuel for a total of $1050 which im ok with

Thanks but honestly the little I do know I learned from reading & remembering from posts from smart guys ( like you ) here. OP wants max improvement with stock valve springs , we know he can`t "have it all"
