Default Ring gap

Harley big bore 103 was checking ring gap and one of the top compression rings is reading .023 the service manual calls for .022 is .001 out of spec enough to worry about or just run it. The other top ring is set at .019

That’s what I was thinking .001 isn’t that much

having ring gaps a couple thousands over spec will not hurt anything, having them a couple thousands under will be the problem

turning in acceptable numbers? if yes, run it.
if it bothers you, you may get away with just a new set, just measure everything. what i do is buy a set over and custom cut for the lowest allowable running clearance. make sure all your parts are designed to play nice with each other.

Thanks for the replies, I got them on the pistons now so I’m gonna go with it probably a lot from the factory like that anyway. I know what I know and don’t mind asking when I don’t know.

What are all the numbers from the manual for your engine?.

As an example my 1200 Sportster engine with new components can have a ring gap of 0.007" to 0.020". The wear limit is 0.032"

.004", .005" per inch of bore is the MINIMUM standard, unless otherwise specified.
Too tight and they will fracture.
