TC 88” to 98” upgrade with S&S .510 cam
I ride a 2003 Deuce with a carburetor, not injected. Pretty much a stock 88 with a Ness giant sucker and Thunderheader. In 2019 I got talked into a .510 S&S bolt in cam. Nice top end increase but not much low end torque. I did the entire cam chest and oil pump, also. Im very impressed with all of the technical input from the posts I have read on these forums. I would appreciate some input on how to solve the torque dilemma. I was thinking a 98 kit and doing the heads since they would be coming off anyway. I read Scott at Hillside said that the .510 likes cr of 10.2. I would definitely put .600 springs in. I wanted to know if I have the heads done to match the cam, if I go to a Woods or Andrews cam next year, will the heads need redone? Any suggestions would be appreciated. I rarely run 2 up, and dont want to be first, just happiest.

if you want your heads done, you would be better served to choose a different cam, talk to your head porter and they will have suggestions on what works well with their work. the .510 cam was designed to work with stock style heads, and it will work better with more compression, if you are going to port,,,,,,,
a 10-10.5-1 98 inch, with heads done and the right cam will be very satisfying, without breaking the bank. you dont mention what carb you have, but that might be the only area to consider afterwords if you're running the stock cv, although that can be made to work with a lot of builds, MY opinion would be to step that up to an S&S or Mikuni, your choice.
Scott at Hillside and Kirby at VeeTwin Racing are both good guys to work with if you dont have a local guy.

570 Cams
Hi Kirby, this is Deuce Dave 2003 from the HD Forums replying to your message. I would absolutely like to take you up on purchasing a cam. I’ll take the S&S .570 Gear drive Easy Start complete kit For the price you quoted me. Just let me know how to get you my credit card information and I’ll send you shipping information to Ohio. Thank you for your help and input. By the way, can you bore my jugs and install the 98” kit if I ship them to you? What would be the price? Feel free to email me.

This netted an "actual ' C/R of approx. 9:3 ( they also offer 10:5 to 1 , this "might" be a choice for you as your Deuce is lighter than my RK)
This was advised by DJL for carb models. to avoid tuning issues
He also advised a twin tech ignition for the same reason
Just north of you in 44720
Regards !
