No you're not stepping over any line. I guess I should have explained myself a bit better to begin with. First this kit was originally my plan. I had a set of heads done up for it already also. I started getting all the parts before I tore down my motor. Once i did the tear down i realized the crank was out of true. I was told by 1 company i could go with a stroker crank and i wanted to know if they were correct or not. Knowing I need to either redo my crank or get a new one and a stroker wouldn't cost any more if I went new. Now I have found out that that company was wrong and a stroker will not work with my kit. So in reality I'm just back to where I was at the beginning with 1 extra cost and that is the crank. I'm not trying to make the good deal kit work with my build, the good deal kit was my plan to begin with. I will bring up one thing that does kind of bug my a bit, it seems like a lot of people respond to these kind of post without actually answering the questions. There was a reason why I specifically said what options I had and very few people actually answered the actual question. Most just gave other option that I were not listed as options. I see that happen a lot on this forum but I guess that's just part of what it is.

I understand where you're coming from. If your kit is what you want then build it. IMO the best thing to do would be to contact S&S and ask them what would be different in the kit you purchased vs the kit made for the longer stroke crank. I would think that only the pistons would change but I think it's best to contact the manufacturer to be sure. I'm going to assume if you were to purchase a stroker crank it would be an S&S. So a little time on the phone and you may find out that a serious increase in displacement could be a lot fewer dollars than you think. Please keep us updated on your progress and results

I made my decision on what I'm going to do about the crank. I'm going to buy a new man-o-war crank from darkhorse. I'm going to have my local wrench order it sometime in the next few days or so. I figure it like this, 100ci is going to give me more than enough power to move this 1999 dyna around. I'll start the build after the first week of March as that's when I'll have the time to really dig in. I'll post up how it goes. Thank you to all who replied and thank you to all who understand where I'm coming from on this project.

when your indy spilts the cases for your new crank, make sure that he measures the spigot depth in the cases. there is a mention in the s&S instruction sheet about the cases needing a particular depth measurement. some year cases are not bored deeply enough, so you might have to have the spigot area clearanced. I looked this up in the instruction sheets from S&S for the 100 inch drop in kit for the bikes with a stock 4.00 stroke. there are very good pictures in the instruction sheet. make sure you are good in this respect. after looking at that sheet it makes me wonder if that is/was not an issue with the reports of spigot failures.

the sheet says you need to check this on 99-06 cases. hope this helps you out.

I wonder if that may have had something to do with the cylinder spigots cracking?
