Hey all new to site. I just bought my brothers 79 shovelhead, great bike BUT the drive gear for the oil pump on the crankshaft is all jacked. How do you replace it? Can you pull the cam drive gear off with the crankshaft in the bike?
Thanks in advance Campy
the fsm is a must. everything should come out with engine in frame. be aware that the pinion nut is left hand thread. there are some special tools for the job of removing the pinion gear but if you are handy, probably do with out them. i made my own.
So just looking around at getting new pinion gear and oil pump gear since the pinion gear on the crankshaft is toast. Can you just buy a matched set been reading on the different colors... I figure I need to replace the oil pump gear since the pinion gear is so bad???
Ok 1 more question, if you have to check the lash do I just buy a set and see what it is??
I found a set of RED dots at summit, seems its hard to find them as a set.
