Default Drop in 103 cams

Hey guys/gals, new member here so I'm not exactly sure where to look for the answers to my question. I have a 2014 Softail Deluxe 103 stage 1 currently. I'm looking to add some cams to her soon for a little more pep. I've been doing a little bit of research and was thinking about the S&S 585 cam. My question is, are these cams "drop in"? can i install these without having to do any head work or anything like that? Are these cams decent? or is there something better out there? I'm not a hard rider, i just cruise so i don't really need anything that's high performance or anything like that.

thanks in advance everyone,
Shane.

585's are a bolt in cam but they will be a little soft on the bottom with stock compression they have an intake closing of 45, and work better about 10.5 to 1. 570's would be a better choice if you have to have s&s.

I don't necessarily have to have S&S, i was just looking on their site and they have a pretty good breakdown of what fits what. Im open to suggestions on any other brand. I will take a look at those 570's though. thanks

When I was researching drop in cams for 103", the Andrews 48 seemed to come highly recommended.

My '09 Ultra Classic had been upgraded to 103" & PO had 510g cams installed. I'm very happy with the performance but looking at specs on S&S site it sounds like 551 or 570 are better choices.
I'm not an overly aggressive rider, 551 shows gains idle-4000 rpm. That's probably 98% of my type of riding.

I really liked the Andrews 48H. Great bolt in cam with stock heads. I just sold a set on this forum today. I did some extensive engine work and went to a bigger cam.

You need a lot more compression to run 585's in a twin cam. My go to cam for the 96" and 103" is the Andrews 48, they will bump the torque up early and IMO are one of the best bolt-in cams for someone who never plans on going bigger than a stage 2...

No dispute of the 48's.
Another cam that has recently surprised us is the S&S MR103.
