I have already done a cam swap and gear conversion and I want just a little more power,. I'm trying to gain more without breaking the bank.
I know the the 96 swap cost X, but Isa good head job about the same increase? Port and polish with cams in a cars yields good everyday power,, will it be the same on a V twin?
Decent power can be had from a TC88 with the right cam set, exhaust, headwork and tune but it would be a huge mistake not to spend another $300-$500 to increase displacement to 98". JMHO.
You didn't mentioned if you've improved the air flow through your motor. Have you done exhaust and air filter yet?
RE jetted the carb, Andrew's 37 cam, gear drive, and v&h straight shot pipes with inserts one inch from the end of the pipe and big ait intake with k&n filter.
I was looking at a set of heads a while back thar were ported and polished and shaved a bit, and wondered what gain it would be?
And sell those short shots as fast as you can and get a pro pipe/fat cat/road rage/anything 2-1. The 88 doesn’t have enough torque to be throwing it away.
Biggest bang would be to up the cubes to 98", and establish the proper compression for cam's intake closing number....and heads.

This is the best solution. My friend put 37 cams in his 2002 Night Train and two years later did the barrels and heads with correct compression. What a huge difference it made.

So the head job, port and polish and a little shave would be wise?
It has a little now, so a wee bit more would be pleasing.
