Scott did my tc88 to a 98" head work and cam. Ignition I put a fat cat on it. After I got the correct carb tuning, it is 100% animal. I wont let anyone ride it if you dont know, you will lay the bike down in 2nd gear. Very easy actually I would go with scott at hillside and be done with it. Awesome build over the winter.

Hetkehog, what stage heads and what cam did Scott use on your bike?

How much can the heads be shaved before the pistons will tap the dome?
Seeing all sorts of businesses but there are almost zero reviews of the work.

The valves will touch first; that's what should be checked and maintain adequate clearance between valve and piston at TDC. First things first, put together a build plan that uses OEM chamber volume and rely on piston dome volume to set compression or minimize the head cut based on intake timing of the selected cam set. Mock up and measure as part of the assembly process to verify. If cams are very high lift, valve to valve clearance should also be checked.

The criteria is TDC lift, not valve lift.

Guess I thinking wrong, i thought valve lift at TDC were the same?
Cause the shaving of the head lowers the valve chamber and at top TDC if the valve comes down to far well you have a nice hole in the cylinder.

We may be talking past each other. Examples below:
Andrews TW37 has valve lift @ .510" and intake TDC lift @ .151"
HD SE 204 has valve lift @ .508" and intake TDC lift @ .208"
Woods TW5G has valve lift @ .575" and intake TDC lift @ .174"

So, as you can see, just because a cam has higher valve lift does not necessarily mean there will be less valve to piston clearance at TDC.
