Default Sportster engine knock, at low speed when turning left only

Can I add anything to the description? I have a very loud clunking, knocking sound coming from my engine (I think) but ONLY at very low RPM's, and it seems ONLY when making a left turn?? How can that be. I can ride this bike all day, it runs like a bat out of hell, and I'll be coming home, I have a stoplight with two lefts just before my house, I can almost predict that I will get a loud knocking noise as I make the lefts (2nd gear - very low RPM)?? I'm baffled.

Here's the background on the bike. It started as a 1994 883. I put a 1200 kit on it with some hotter cams, drove it for several years, then gave it to my son as a graduation present when he got out of college with his Mechanical Engineering degree. He stripped the bike, sent the frame off to become a hard tail, and rebuilt the motor. I was told it has "high flow heads"?? (bigger valves?), hot cams, and new pistons. This build was probably 7 years ago?? My son died 4 years ago, so I re-inherited the bike back. With the hard tail, suicide clutch, and built up motor, it's a blast to drive, and like I said, fast as ****. It sounds very good through the entire power band, strong, no knocks, and we've probably put literally 10,000 miles on it (don't know, it's stripped - no speedo)...since he built it, but I get this knock that drives me nuts.

It does seem that if I put in the clutch when it's making this turn, it goes away, so I don't know it that's because it's only knocking on load, or if it's drive train? or if it's a rattle somewhere in the frame? It ONLY knocks when turning left, at low RPMS and speeds (in other words, I can be flying through the twisties in our local wine country, and no rattles on any of the curves).

Help I'm going nuts.

I’m having this same problem on a 91 sporty 883. All stock. Knocking in a slow left turn. Love to know if you found anything?

not lugging , happens with clutch in.
I had a heavy passenger and it was doing it like crazy.

My first hunch is to check motor mounts or look for signs of rubbing.

You sure that garish shifter isn't knocking into anything?

Definitely would pull the primary to check compensator, clutch basket and tensioner..

no compensator but yes, check chain tension. have you tried looking at the jiffy stand? the spring can relax and not hold it up properly, mine makes noise, matter of fact, even lost one on the highway. look at the bushings, can get them at tractor supply, i got a long one and cut to size, and got rid of the hd retainer since that style failed and the pin fell out.
