Hi, looking to change out my pitted cam cover on 99 softail , picked up a nice HD used one that looks real nice, ? can I just switch it out or do I need to something with the bushing in the cover
thanks inadvance for the help
you can swap it out as long as the bushing is in good shape....REMEMBER the cam cover on the EVO actually supports the cam unlike a twin cam where it's just a cosmetic cover so you must relieve the pressure on the push rods by either removing them or cutting them an replacing them with adjustable ones.....while doing this it's a great time to change the cam bearing an if higher mileage the lifters....if you got the stock cam might as well swap that out too, you'll be happy you did.
Good advice by langwilliams.
I will add that cam end play/breather end play should be checked when installing a new cover.
Probably is OK, but if you check, then you'll know.
