I spent the last couple days going through everything and finishing up a few things to make it actually ridable. I changed the trees so I had to finalize buttoning up the front end, set the fall away, etc.

I rechecked the adjustment on the Fuel Moto pushrods, ended up not changing anything as they spun nicely with no extra play when at TDC. I also snugged down the exhaust header bolts, thinking that have been the ticking I heard.

Rolled it outside and fired it up. The ticking I heard last time doesn't seem to be there anymore. Maybe was the exhaust? In any case, sounds like I expect it to now.

The P0505 code came back after running for a bit. I sprayed a bit of carb cleaner at the intake from the back side, seems to be have a small vacuum leak where the intake bolts to the rear head. I'm sure that's what is setting the code. I'll let it cool down for awhile and tackle the intake seal. Not really looking forward to that, but at least I know what it is.

I've got it set up to drop the bike off later this week at the tuner where he'll complete the break in procedure on the dyno.

In the meantime, here's a short clip for your viewing pleasure.

I tried adjusting the seal on the intake without removing everything, but quickly realized that wasn't going to happen. Pulled the throttle body and intake all the way off, cleaned the seals, and even applied a thin bead of high temp RTV to the outside surface, hoping to for sure get a good seal. I let it sit overnight to cure, and fired it up when I got home from work again. Couldn't get it to idle under 2k RPM, and the P0505 code reset.

This thing is starting to **** me off. I'm supposed to be dropping it off at the tuners tomorrow...

Messed with it a while but never really figured out the idle issue.

Forum member AllenW trailered it for me to the tuner and figured i'd let them look at it before it was tuned. He figured it would be a week or so before he got to it, which sucks, but its that time of year and I'm the idiot who took this long to get his bike running. Oh well, it will be worth it when its all ready to ride.

I've worked as a service writer/body shop estimator for 16 years, and I've always worked on my own stuff, so it was pretty weird for me to drop my stuff off to get worked on. But I feel pretty comfortable with the shop that has it, and they have a good reputation.

I have to admit, it is a damn good looking bike. First-and hopefully last-time it ever sees a trailer.

I would advise to double check the intake seals are correct, the same thing happened to me, idled to 2000rpm, would pull stuff apart, must be a sensor etc, put it back together still idled to 2000rpm , done that couple times until realised on wrong way

Ok, this got me thinking. I've had it apart and back together a few times and have been trying to figure out how I could still possibly have a leak. If in fact that was what was causing the idle issue.

It never occurred to me that I might have put it together wrong, but after this post, and digging through google images, I'm convinced I did in fact manage to f it up. It's obvious now, but I installed the seals and intake flanges backwards. Damn, I feel stupid. I'm sure the shop that has it will figure it out, but I'm going to be proactive and call them and confess my stupidity so hopefully that will minimize my diagnosis charges. Oh well...

Yeah. I guess if you have pre-06 heads you can do that.. I kinda take that stuff for granted..

Did look like you should have later heads. Manifold rings are the same.. Shouldn't be an issue unless you used early rings. It may be fit tho.. I don't know that the OD is on the manifold spigot you used but you may have used the wrong seals.. I recently replaced the heads on my 07 egc that has an HPI throttle body on it. Went from a set of 99 heads to 06s. Swapped the rings but needed to refit the HPI manifold. Had to trim the spigots as they were too long and add relief cuts for the bolts I used.. Not doing that would have caused manifold leaks.
