Default SE259e vs SE585

Hey, how's everybody?!? Can anyone list the pros and cons of both the 585 and 259 cams when doing the stage IV 103" build? I'll be getting it done soon, and I'm having trouble deciding on the cam. Thanks in advance

Stage 4 kit is at 10.5 compression and therefore not suited to the se585 cam. Perfectly suited to the s&s585 cam though

Me and my dad have both done the stage IV kit on our 103 motors. We both used the se585 cams and are very happy with the results. The se 585 cams are very well suited for a big touring bike. I tried the 259 cams and I took them out. After a tune my bike is at 107hp and 107 torque. Very happy with the results.

Agreed.... 10.3 would be the max on the 585 with a 36* ivc.
10.3:1= 9.53 dynamic at 600 ft elevation and 200ccp. Any thing more than that and you'll be pushing it. Especially on a hot day.....

Having had a Stage 4 Build with SE-585 Cams I can tell you this.. They lasted 1 riding season in my bike before I got rid of them.

CCP was 211. It was a bad combination. (they pulled so much spark out that there was no way to get any low end torque).

Steer clear of the SE-585 if you are going Stage 4.

Here is a link to a Huge conversation about these two cams

Good Luck

P.S. here is how I corrected my Problem with the Stage 4 Se-585 Cams

Both Threads show Dynos of before and afters.

Hey man, thanks for the response. Your link with how you fixed it won't open though. Can you explain what you did? This is the info I've been looking for. THANKS!!

Just fixed the Link.

Basicly went to a 107 with Andrews57 Cams.
Slightly lower compression and did a little more headwork.

Huge boost to down low torque

I'm actually thinking about the se204 with the Se a/c, dragons dragula 2 into one and a tune for now to ride out my warranty and then things will get fun. Thanks for all of your input!!

How does the se204 sound?? From my research it should put the tq down low where we want it and have a nice long curve...I hope anyway haha

Are there any other SE cams that would work well without having to change springs, heads etc.??
