Default Dyna 96 to a 103 upgrade questions

To start off I have a 07 street Bob with the 96 motor. A buddy of mine upgraded his 2014 Dyna to a 110 so he wants to sell me his stock 103 top end and I could get a deal on it. Question is would it be worth the work going from the 96 to 103? Of course I would go ahead and change my cams to get more torque out of the deal. Just curious if anybody has done it on there Dyna before I go spending money on all the parts and a tuner. Thanks

Unless you're getting his stuff for 200 or less you would be better off doing a 107 with your own parts or go right to 110 from boardtracker.com @ $950 Far more and better cam options at 107 or 110 as well assuming the plan is to leave heads alone

The only benefit to this are the acr's in the 103 heads. Your going with new cams. Have to get the cylinders at looked at with rings and at least a hone. Like dave said it would have to be a pretty low dollar transaction to make it worth it.

Go 107".just taking used parts & putting them on your bike with a ball hone is a crap shoot to weather your going to have a oil consuming nightmare, and pistons are set to such tight tolerances, that any fixed honing will most likely put them over spec

Thanks for the advice. Yeah I think he was wanting to try and get around 500 for all his parts. I'm sure I will just end up going 107

It would bump your compression up a bit and you could put the .030 Cometic gasket in to get a bit more, but it looks like you would go from around 9.3:1 to 10.1:1 so it doesn't seem to be worth it. You could get new pistons with higher compression and the boring to 107 for about the same money.

I paid $300 bucks for my 103 heads pistons and jugs, with 15,000 miles. Checked the valves for leakage, all good, honed the cylinders, new rings, new ACRs, because I didn't get them with the motor. .030 head gaskets SE204 cams. Plus 30/70 sprockets. It moves nice.
