Given no bearing or bush at the cam ends, that is what I suspect and why I asked before opening it up.
I found a NOS one for 45.00 USD so by the time I bought the bushing at the crank end it was a no brainer.
Sounds like you are headed in the right direction.. The only thing is that I'd check the bearings and if they are OK use the original plate. I've read complaints about some being worn out when torn down but really don't have any direct experience.
