Default Is this a legit Amsoil filter?

I purchased this filter on e-bay and am now regretting it a little. The seller has a 100% positive feedback rating with 540 deals to his credit and he's been an Ebay member since 2004. He sells a bunch of different stuff, some of which is Harley related. His ad for the filter says he's got about 100 filters of various part numbers that come from an Amsoil distributor's shelf, at wholesale prices.

My biggest concern is the red felt pen mark across the business end of the filter. The moment I saw it I thought wtf, was this filter rejected by a an Amsoil QA inspector? Is it even really an Amsoil filter?

I'd like to get your thoughts on this, including your opinion about the likelihood that this is an actual Amsoil filter or just some knockoff in an Amsoil box. I'm glad to provide other pics if it'll help. The guy seems legit, but he's clearly not an Amsoil dealer or even a volume seller of motorcycle parts. I only bought from him because it's such a PIA to buy from a real Amsoil distributor (which I'm sure you here will set me straight on). This is the first Amsoil product I've purchased, having only recently decided to standardize on the brand after doing enough research to convince me it's worth the extra cash.

If you don't buy from an authorized dealer or reseller, there is no way to know if it is 1st Quality Amsoil.

Thanks, yes I'm aware of that, and thus my question.

It'd be helpful to know if Amsoil filters come with this red stripe as an indicator that they have passed inspection, or if it means they failed it.

Just go to any store, pick up a filter and ...

Oh wait, Amsoil isn't sold in any stores because the other companies don't want the loss of sales.

Call Amsoil and ask them. They have good customer service.

Not sure if the red stripe means anything or not. None of my auto filters have a red stripe. But all are wrapped in plastic.

Not a PIA to buy Amsoil products. Go to website sign up for preferred customer and have items shipped to your door.

Yes it is a genuine Amsoil filter, the few that I have at the shop have a marker line across them like that....

It'll only cost 8 grand to find out if it's a real filter
