Default inspecting cam chain shoes and discovered

while inspecting cam shoes, discovered that this 05 road king custom does not have chain/tensioner/shoes, just gears.
gears have s&s stamped on them, the cam plate has HD stamped on it.
hard to see the back of the cam plate, does not seem to have chain/tensioner/shoes, just gears.

however, did find a couple of big chunks that appear to be shoe fragments?
wondering where these chunks came from.

thinking no chain/tensioner/shoes to break, is a good thing?

thanks,
stoney

Previous owner had a failed tensioner problem and installed gear drive cams and missed a couple of pieces of the broken tensioners that had failed. (Can't think of another reason.)

Are you in the cam chest just checking it out, or is there a problem?

gear driven cams are a good thing, yes. they don't come like that from the factory.

my original tensioner shoes were orange, hard to tell in the pic what those pieces are but they are way bigger than the pieces I found when they disintegrated.

was getting ready to change the shoe in the primary, decided to look at the cam shoes also. glad i did.

the chunks seem to be orange. the big chunk seemed to be stuck in the cover. was moving cover around and heard a noise. then the chunk fell out. kinda funny.

thanks,
stoney
