Blown Motor?

I picked up the Vulcan sprocket for peanuts just to help diagnose the problem. I really didn't intend on leaving it on because I've read a lot of stuff that makes me think it might do some damage to the engine/tranny over time. I was hoping to read/hear some more about comps versus the comp eliminating gear.

Since my comp doesn't show any obvious signs of failure other than some shiny areas where the sprocket rubbed on the cam, I decided to call Baker and talk to them. They told me it was probably the spring cups that where failing. Although I didn't see any cracks, etc, I guess they can lose strength resulting in slippage (which I felt the day I thought I blew something up). This would also cause the comp parts to separate easier causing the spring cups, etc, to rattle more. And from what I gather, the oiling problem can result in additional friction and loss of material..causing rattling, slippage, etc.
Think I'll go with the Baker...can get it from JPCycles with the Gold membership for $450...plus another $15 off with their welcome credit.

Thanks. I'm not needing that sprocket.......yet. And I won't buy a new compensator, they all suck. I will go solid at some point. So if a used solid sprocket comes up at a deal I may jump on it.
