Default Doing a 95" kit on my 99 tc88 need opinions on cams [sorry]

I put a tc88 out of a 1999 fxdx into my 89 fxrs I had fun with it but now want more. Just ordered the screaming eagle 95" piston kit and having my jugs bored. I am now torn between cams. At first I was told a se203 cam would be good.. then after reading alot of people said se204 would be better but a andrews tw37 would be even better than that.

I am upgrading the motor to torington bearings but thats it. I dont want to do any head work or anything fancy. I usually ride this bike fast and hard and its my daily rider. [ive got a 66shovel chop for puting around town and looking cool in front of bars]

I just want some input from guys who have done it especially on a 95" se piston kit. Most threads I read were from guys wanting cams for stock 88ci.

The 37 will be soft on the bottom; needs more compression. If you are not planning any head work, I always recommend the S&S509. The '99 heads/valve springs are limited to about .525" lift and the heads don't flow much after .500" lift so anything with more than .500" lift isn't going to make much difference. A $450 "street" port job and '05 up OEM beehive springs will open up the door to cam selection and a more fun.............

Now if the SE pistons were the 10.25 high compression pistons (you can probably exchange the flat tops for the domes) and you could find a set of Andrews TW44 cams, you would have something that would wake that motor up. Unfortunately, I don't think Andrews offers the 44 cams any more. You might get by with the 37 cams as well, just bit more compression to deal with; the Andrew 31 is another possibility. You also need a fuel management system to tune whatever you do. Check out the condition of the cam chain tensioners and upgrade the inner cam bearings as part of the project.........

Thanks good info. Yeah I just want some more pep. I like ripping light to light and like having something fast, but not building a drag bike, and dont want to put together a grenande, also dont care about swinging my **** around at dyno days.. This is also my "cruiser" I take to work and long trips. Rode it from philly to cali last year.. Only reason Im doing any of this is becuase I want to upgrade the cam bearings and make sure everything in the cam chest is good. The rest is because the parts are fairly cheap. The pistons are cheap at 160.00 shipped, my machinist will do the jugs for 40.00 each and ebay always seems to have a plethora of used cam choices in the 100-200 range.

I am running a cv carb and thunderheart standalone ignition so mapping isnt an issue.

Someone in another thread mentioned using a 4* advance gear to correct for compression and or a cometitic .030 head gasket.. any thoughts on that?

9.8-10.0 cr with those 37's.
Headwork will tie it all togather.

Mapping isn't an issue but carb tuning will be necessary. Stick a 509 in, use the 4* advance sprocket and a .030" head gasket and you should be sitting pretty. Although if the heads come off, at least a cleanup, multi angle valve job and new guide seals. It just doesn't make sense to R/R the heads and at least give them the minimum bit of TLC............. The again, if the heads are off an the funds available, the formula Scott lays out is a good one.

may I ask? what kind of power are you going to gain with that work done? I will do it and even buy a good set of heads. I have a 2002 TC88. and I also am not looking for a dragster, but who don't want more power
