Semi-new on forum. After reading other threads, decided to put in 106 kit. Used S&S 570 cam, with headwork and compression releases. Finished assembling, ran starter several times with fuse for fuel pump removed. Then bike started, ran a minute or two and turned off. left sit for awhile and repeated. Ran through old battery and a new battery. When she started, ran very ruff and backfired. I am new to a rebuild, any ideas? I'm not sure how she should respond on first starts. Thank you for any responses.
it should start right up & run fine.make sure your mapped at least close.what tuner are you using? wondering too why you just didn't use EZ start cams, wouldnt have needed the compression releases
Thanks. I think I got the cams lined up - checked the timing marks on the cams, checked the timing marks on the gears, checked the difference between the gears. Using a power commander V.
Did you install new plugs? When I did my 107 build I didn't think about needing different plugs and I had a hard time getting it started. It coughed through the air cleaner and ran rough. Installing Screamin' Eagle plugs fixed the problem.
Download a map that is close until you can tune it but even still, it should run, just might run a bit rough.
I've never had to change plugs after 2 upgrades. Bought new ones but never even fitted them
Thank you for all of the help. I tried the new plugs, HD screaming eagle for high compression, attached a battery charger - she started right up, ran for a bit then died as if no gas. When she ran she sounded awesome. Using a two-brothers exhaust. Using the original push rods.

Kirby might be able to help here but not sure you can use stock PR's with that cam.
