You seem to enjoy the power so I'm curious as to why not the 124 HC?

I don't think I've read about anyone with a 143" yet - we could do with a volunteer!

Good question. I lusted after one, when the HC spec was the only version available, and my local S&S agent discouraged me from buying one. Admittedly I wanted an Evo version, but he assured me they weren't any good as a touring engine, especially two up. The LC version, with the same 585 cams as my 107", is a much smoother and nicer thing to ride, I am told. But then some of our members go and tune an HC version, so I'm not sure where that leaves us!

The LC version is to somewhat -try- to stay off the side of the road. I like what you're all saying, but you're not at full throttle more than 1% of the time. Also I seem to end up around the desert [+100°F] and the bigger motors run a little hotter. I figure the lower compression isn't terrible.

The 143 was considered, but it requires new intake and exhaust, and they're not off the shelf I'm told. If this one blows [I can't believe I said that] I'd consider the 143" then - maybe. Or just buy a stocker and put along.

I love the power, but I love going in a forward direction more. And since I'm shooting for a few IBAs in the next couple of years - reliability is a concern / requirement. 124 LC sounds kinda bulletproof, where the 143 is a monster with NO WARRANTY. Since the 120R was my no warranty experience, I'll skip a round...

With this experience, I've learned lots, and lookforward to my [once again] winter project.

Thanks
H

Sounds reasonable.

You are right about limited time at full throttle. I'm at 1/4 throttle 90% of time..... 50% when I want to NAIL it......

And from what I'm told, the 143" requires give or take, another $5,000 - $8,000 to get ready to ride (exhaust, intake, chain conversion, and some other stuff- I forget)

Yeah - The 143 is purpose built for the drag strip. Awesome yes, and sounds dependable - S&S claims to be well over 13,000 miles of dragstrip, demo rides, and employees riding back n forth to work with their "Dragon" Road Glide w/143.

But - when is enough - enough?

Anyhow - the 124 LC is on order, and however long it takes to get to the dealer is when I can get going on the project. [if that makes sense]

Fair enough. I can't imagine that LC being any kind of slouch regardless.

Word is 130 HP, 140 Ft-Lb.

That will out do the 124R (when it didn't have a cooked rod bearing)

And apparently 40 mpg... Unless you're kickin' it.

And cooler
and smoother
and warrantied [2 years]

40 mpg Canadian? Would be not to shabby. Russel might be able to squeak that outa there.
