quickie pushrods, HD, S&S Ultima
Get an S&S cam install kit, it has bearings, all the o-rings and gaskets

if your going to keep the motor one stock, the 48`s are OK.personally if your going to do something, ide do something you can really feel and wont leave you wanting for more in 6 months (and no,im not talking fire breathing race monster)if staying 96",ide at least pump the compression to 10.0-1 and go with a set of S&S .570 cams.but my real choice would be 107",mild 1.900/1.615 headwork & S&S .585 cams.this will give 115+120+ easy and still be very reliable and wont have you doing another build next winter

It is currently stock except for hi flow air cleaner, fuelpak and v&h exhaust. I'm thinking a cam swap and compression bump will do what I want, but I'm not sure what cams to run or which route to go for the compression. I'm thinking somewhere in the 10:1 to 10.5:1 cr range. And a cam that will cover general riding. Typically I ride alone, but occasionally have a passenger or some gear.

I know my fuelpak will have to go...unless there's a way to keep it and accommodate timing changes.

I'm not looking to build a monster race motor by any means, just want to wake up the 96 a little.

What do you guys think?
We have 107" kits with S&S E-Z Start cams starting at under 1K if your pulling the wrenches yourself.
Great value.

Does the 107 require case boring?

Is that kit pretty well inclusive? I'll still need a tuner of some kind right?

And is it correct that running the big bore jugs with stock heads will automatically raise compression?

It will ,and the EZ Start feature will negate any starting issues.
Assuming a constant being an 85cc chamber, we set the compression, via piston dome volume/gasket thickness, as needed.
And yes, cylinder head work will GREATLY enhance cylinder fill, allowing more power yet to be had.

Default Tuner?

So what tuner is the most user friendly/dyno friendly?

I just talked to a local Indy guy that says the $900 thundermax is the way to go. I don't really want to drop $900 on the tuner alone. I was hoping to be in the $1000-1200 range total. Am I being unrealistic?

For a 107 build with bored cylinders/new pistons, gaskets, modded heads, new cams, and a tuner - Yes, you are way low. Plan for around $2k-$2.5k if you do the assembly yourself. Also, don't forget the dyno tune - $300-$400...~$3k all in.
