The pistons are fine! Its the fuel mix that may be a little rich.

I would just clean up the tops and reuse them (but check the rings for wear etc and the skirts for scuffing)

Its not unusual to see them like that.

Clean up the pistons, hone the cylinders and re-ring. Vent the breather to atmosphere and get a good tune. Problem solved... and never use any fuel below 91 0ctane...

That's it with the exception that fitment should be checked in TQ plates before deciding to reuse the pistons after a very light hone on the cylinder walls to break any glaze. No mention of how many miles on the motor but I have seen many pistons with more buildup in less than 10K miles. Google search venting breathers to the atmosphere and you can see what that requires. I have attached a couple of photos of how one of my bikes is vented to better explain breather venting to prevent crank case oil mist, unburnt fuel, etc. from being vented back into the combustion chamber which contributes to what you see on top of those pistons.

So did I; check the first photo of my previous post. The can is vented and functions as a breather but the guts are filled with the same fiber mesh material in the head breathers. I take it apart once a season, clean the filter material and reinstall; I am a minimalist. I suppose if I had some blow by, the little canister would drip from the vents but I don't, so it works well.

I must say however, that I like the way you have your catch can setup and would like to see close up photos of the can and how it is attached. I am looking at a similar solution for my touring model.

Did the same. Drain it once a week. About 300 miles or so.

Thanks, GibT. Did the filter come with the catch can? I haven't been able to find any that small locally.
