Default Stock 96. What Head/Cam combo to buy?

Ok I have a stock 2008 96 cu softail with a Fuelmoto air cleaner, two into two BR V&H pipes and a Power Vision tuner.

I don't really want to go with a big bore kit or new pistons. What I do want is a good strong street motor and am willing to do heads and a cam.

My question is what heads and cam combo will give me a good kick from down low to mid rpm?

Not looking to win dyno wars or race guys but do want the bike to breath and perform better.

I suggest the 255's, torrington bearings, and a tune from Jamie and call it a day

edit: you could get some reasonably priced just about anywhere

andrews 57's and hillside stage II heads runs good just did a breakout with that setup and it runs great from down low all the way through the power band. that was a 103 but should be similar results.

The problem with 96 is low compression. Ya really can't mill the heads enough to bring it up to run many cams that would respond well to headwork. I would just throw some 48s in it or go for bore and Pistons with proper cams and headwork.

Hmm... You should be able to take enough off of the heads to get them down to 80cc, and that should net you ~10:1 or so. Not full gnarly, but there should be some cams out there for 'ya. I've got an 88 bored to 97, with heads milled to that compression with the S&S 570's and I'm pretty happy. Just my 2c worth...

So what you're saying is I want more or better options in the future I kinda have to go 103 or 107?
I guess once you've gone as far as heads and cams the 103 isn't a big effort?

I put SE255's in my 96" FXDF and it is one of my best performing bikes. Has a good pull and noticeable improvement. Oh, tuning is Power Vision and map from Fuelmoto, they did a good job on this one.

Drop in the Andrews 48's; very similar to the SE255s but will hang in longer; upgrade the inner cam bearings as well. When the new wears off, and it will, bore 103"/107", upgrade to cam of your choice with .570"-.600" lift and have the head porter of your choice set the heads out for the selected cam. Do yourself a favor when you go bigger bore and replace the BR pipes with a performance exhaust.

In that Softail, a good combo would be;
Bore to 107"/10.0 cr.
S&S .570 EZ
Our Stage II Heads
Bore T/body to 50mm, with 1.710" port.
Good pipe.
Smooth, broad power.
Almost bet you'd not be looking for more.
