Default 103 acr heads on a 88?

I have a stock bore 88 with 510 cams, can I put 103 acr heads on the 88 jugs or do I have to go to the 96 jugs? Are the acr heads useable with either manual comp releases or just plugging? Are they worth picking up for a later date build? Thanks for the info in advance!

Heads will bolt on (88 & 96 jugs are the same) and work better. Just need to use late model intake flanges. ARCs can be plugged or hooked to the starter solenoid.

So when you say work better, I guess you mean that they flow better? Is it enough to worry about? Cause I'm considering doing away with my MM efi and going back to a carb. Do the 103 heads have bigger valves/ports? I guess what I'm getting at is that I found a set of take off heads for $350 that were supposedly pulled at 80 miles. Was just wondering if this was something worth buying and installing for a performance gain on my 88 and is it worth it for the $$

Yes the newer heads flow better and allow higher lift cams. Not sure ya would feel much/any gain with mild 510s in your 88?

That cam needs to be at/very near 10.0 cr to let the badger loose.

JMHO but there will be no performance gain unless you have the heads to set compression where it needs to be per Scott's post and I have seen later heads sell for much less than $350 and would not pay that much for them. $350 is more than half way to a "street" or Stage I port job on your stock heads so why not go that route; spend a little more money and see some measurable gain in performance.

If you have increased flow from the heads, you'll get something no mater what the cam.. Bumping the compression always helps.
