I sold my Blackline in order to fall backwards a bit on the technical side, and I'm going to pick up a 2001 Fat Boy non-EFI with the 88" engine. Too many wires, harnesses, and error codes on the 2013 Blackline to suit my mechanical curiosity. Anyway, I've been looking into performance upgrades for the engine, and I'm wondering what would be the best bang for the buck with a $2500-$3000 budget? Or, would it be best to fork out several more thousand and drop in a crate motor? Thanks.
1.900/1.630 headwork
S&S .585 cams
10.5-1 98" kit
add some decent pipes & free flowing A/C and you`ll have 105+115+ easy
Those numbers beat the crap out of the stock 103" in the Blackline, so that sounds terrific. Honestly, I was just looking to get the 88" up to where the 103" was so it didn't feel like I lost too much in the downgrade.

What would that work do to engine longevity?
Nothing if you get a quality kit from Hillside or similar.
Yes, bore to 98", good cylinder head work, ignition, cam to compliment your riding wants/needs.
Anywhere from 100 hp to 115 hp, and 100ft/lbs to near 115 ft/lbs, depending on the combination.

we would consider the build I suggested actually kind of a mild build here, engine reliability & longevity will as good or better than stock
