Engine Mechanical TopicsDiscussion for motor builds, cams, head work, stripped bolts and other engine related issues. The good and the bad. If it goes round and around or up and down, post it here.
I would carry a copy of the receipt for the motor with the registration.
The first traffic stop it will most likely be checked. Remember the engine # along with the frame # is on the California title. It may not be a problem but it will be checked.

I can't recall ever having my vin checked on a traffic stop.

You are lucky then. I have been checked several times while I lived down there. And if # don't match the title you better have the MSO or you will end up with your bike impounded.
I've done it. No big deal. Just have your paperwork in order,MSO, Title, Current Reg and VIN verification. I went to CHP for VIN verification, they need to see the new engine installed in the chassis along with the paperwork. I don't know if the VIN verification can be done at DMV or at a AAA type place or if it still has to be done at the CHP. Check with CA-DMV for details. Trust me, DON'T just ride around with the MSO as some say.

Thank you.
I was hoping the CHP check is only for to verify that it's not stolen. Sounds like that's the case…
