Old thread bump because I'm wondering how this would work if you bought a non-CARB motor to replace the OEM one. I have no problem with the title/CHP/DMV inspection thing, I just don't want to get the ball rolling only to hit a wall because my replacement motor isn't CARB Certified.

Mattbastard,
did you end up replacing your motor with a non CARB motor? My M8 motor just sumped, even with the Fueling high flow oil pump. I’m going to need to decide between rebuilding the motor or going with a new crate motor from Harley. I have fairly easy access to picking up a crate motor out of state. My concern is if I take the bike to the CHP or DMV for engine number verification that the supplied paperwork with the motor may indicate it’s a 49 state motor.
