Default S&S 106" and headwork

I'm trying to get my ducks in a row before I pull the motor out of my fxd so I have some questions and I'm looking for some opinions. First off I was set on the S&S 106" kit and now I see they have a 107" kit. From what I've learned, the 106" is no longer being produced and has been replaced with the 107". The 106" is still available through directcycleparts for a pretty reasonable price, am I losing out on much (besides obviously 1 cube) by going with the 106? Is it worth the $300 for the 107? I'm going to have the bottom end done by a local shop to me, RC Cycles, they are going to weld/ true the crank and do the timken. So my next question is cams.. I was thinking the s&s 585 easy start, but I'm undecided between gear or chain drive... I'm not 100% sold on the cams so any input is appreciated. I've done some research but there's so many cams out there you can read til your eyes bleed

Headwork: RC Cycles recommended for good power to send my heads to T-man performance in North Carolina. Has anybody worked with them? I haven't spoke to them yet but I seems like $900-$1000 is about par for the course for good headwork. Any other shops I should check out? Any opinions on Mackie?

I'm looking to get a reliable 115-120 horse out of this thing is that realistic? Also should I be looking to run a bigger throttle body? Do the heads need to be machined for that? I ride the bike pretty much year round and I commute to work on it almost every day and ride it pretty hard. Any input is appreciated, thank you

They switched to CP pistons for the 107 kit.
You can get 115hp from a 107 with the 585's. Just get the compression right.
There are a few places you could get headwork done to achieve your goal. Shop around.
If you're getting the crank done go gear drive. Not mandatory but I always liked the gear drive.
Dave Mackie is a great guy. He can do your heads up right.
I'd go with a 55mm TB.

All good info from Larry.
Target64's 107" went well north of 120 hp with those .585's, and a Wood 9F will push it up yet from there.
Back in the chopper days of Titan, AIM, Big Dog, Illusion, etc., we'd use a Wood 9B, or a 9F in those carbed 107"ers.
They came in with either Supertrapp's or Thunderheaders on them, and with our headwork, and carb mods, they'd most all pop low-mid 120's both hp and torque...........long before these message boards, and before EFI.

with the right headwork,115/120+ shouldn't be a problem with the S&S 585`s (we do it all the time)set the compression @ 10.5-1

Thank you for all the info guys I really appreciate it. I have a lot of phone calls to make. If I were to go with a 55mm tb would you recommend the hpi over the se? Do you think this 106 or 107 needs the bigger tb over porting the stock one? I obviously want the power out of this thing but I also want it to run well. If the $600 tb is worth it then I don't mind spending the extra money

The many high-output 107" engines we have built here, usually are equipped with 55mm HPI t/bodys with a 1.800" manifold, when they leave.

Ok that's good info. I see the 55mm hpi is available in 1.710, 1.730, 1.760 and 1.800. Monte at Mackie recommended 1.750 ( just off the top of his head) so that's something that can be discussed later as well.

Where should I be looking for injectors? Any that are better than others? Sorry for my ignorance I'm trying to pick up on most of this stuff as I go

Edit: I see hpi has the 5.3 injectors, but the list two different part numbers

HPI-DINJ-1 for $285
HPI-LMINJ-1 for $180

They don't describe the difference between the two
