Default '96 Fatboy engine swap

I'm looking to swap my stock engine out with another Harley engine. I do not want to change any of the brackets or do welding to get it in. I have a 1338 ci. I want to stay with a Harley engine.
1. What other years and engines can be swapped into it? I have heard 1430 same year will go right in.
2. Mine came with 58 hp that year to save lives. I would like to look for a little more hp but a stock engine, preferredly. What years are reliable?

Thanks for your help.

Your engine is an 80" Evo, there is no same year bigger engine. The twincam 88" engine was introduced to the Softails around 2000 and has balance shafts, which make the crankcases much more bulky. I would be surprised if they will fit your bike readily.

You can of course have your own engine modified to improve performance, even stroked to 89". You will see several engine specialists in here, so contact one of them, like Scott at Hillside. There are probably indies close to you who can do similar work. Best to phone or visit, to discuss what you would like.

First, what does "indies" stand for (independent)?

Second, does anyone have good recommendations for someone in S. Florida around Ft Lauderdale/Boca Raton area?

Can you tell I'm new?

Yes, to both questions! Independent specialists have far more options and experience when it comes to improving performance than a Harley dealer, most of whom are limited to the Screamin Eagle parts catalogue.

The 1996 EVO in the right hands, Head work ,Cams Fuel can be made to run pretty darn good. The EVO really benefits from head work done right.
Watch out of indies most are a sham.
I still own a 1996 FB and will never part with it.
