Default Dyna Headlight

So I removed my stock headlight to repaint the bucket, I did not cut the wires. I carefully pulled them out of the plastic piece that attaches to the prongs on the bulb. Upon reassmbly i can't get the wire connectors back in that piece. So, is it really necessary, or can I simply connect the wires to the bulb. Seems that the plastic piece only acts as insurance that the wires don't work loose. Any advice?

you can certainly cut the connector off and place the wires in a "spade" connector you can pick up at radio shack or any auto parts store. you simply crimp it on the wire and plug it onto the male spade of the headlight.
