Voltmeter pegged out????
I've had this 01 Ultra for six or seven months now. Since day one, the voltmeter pegs out all the way up as soon as you turn on the switch (engine running or not). Right off, I put a VOM on the battery to confirm that it wasn't actually sending 18 plus volts to the battery,,,, it wasn't. So I wrote it off as being a bad guage,,, but it has always bugged me. Well then one day while out riding, the check engine light comes on. Pulled over,,, it went out and stayed out. But then my speedo starts jumping all over the place. Can't really stop at this point,,,,, I was 170 miles from home and no parts house nearby. Ultimatley,,, the bike died on the side of the rode. Spitting, sputtering and then finally shutting off. Got it trailered home and am slowly gearing up for a charging system makeover.
But that dang voltmeter guage is still bugging me. My gut is telling me that it is significant in my problems. But I can't decifer what it's trying to tell me.
Anyone ever have a voltmeter peg out,,,,,,,,,,,,,,without the engine running, and with it running.
