Default stator 'half-dead'?

Today out of the blue (pretty sure bike was normal last time I rode it) my '13 ultra showed low voltage. normally it would be pegged at ~14 in the panel but now it drops as low as 10 at idle, and goes up as the RPMs go up.

Back to home I go, unplug the stator wires, no short to ground, ohms read normal, however the voltage it puts out on all coils is only 7.2-ish at idle, way lower than normal. is it a thing for a stator to be 'half-dead' like this, no shorts or opens but low voltage out of the blue?

no time to fix it myself so I guess off to the mechanic it goes tomorrow... sigh.

What is the AC output of stator? That should go up to around 80 volts AC when revved up.

Dc also involves volt regs, which converts AC to DC. I had bad plug limit it to 10 volts.

How many miles on bike? With primary off i would replace primary bearing and tranny shifter seals if it hasn't been done before.

Not that I am convinced it is stator, with out knowing ac out put

A stator produces AC voltage.
A regulator converts AC to DC voltage.
Based on the limited information..
Consider review of battery and regulator.

I kinda doubt battery unless just shot. But not sure. But batteries fail the most often.

Check AC out is best. But it can PIA getting at plug depending on year

That seems to say he is measuring output of the stator.

So,op…is that AC voltage from the stator?

Check voltage regulator. If defective, replace with a Cycle Electric one.

This past March, on a lunch run I noticed the needle jumping a bit on my voltage gauge. A little while later, it would read normally. After lunch my 2011 Ultra wouldn't start. Friend had a jump pack and we got the bike started, Ram some tests when I got home and everything tested out OK. I wasn't convinced. Ordered and installed a Cycle Electric CE-607 voltage regulator and haven't had a problem since then. Bike had 218,580 miles on it when I replaced the original voltage regulator. I have over 20,000 on the new one without any problems. When I see/experience a strange electrical problem, I try to track it down and repair it. FYI, I'm still running with the original stator on the bike.

Once again poor advice given by this member!
I believe the stock stator is rated at: 6-23 VAC per 1000 RPM (check your service manual)

Run the engine at 2000 rpm. The VAC output should be 32-46 VAC.

7.2vac at idle (1000rpm). according to spec it should read a minimum of 16.
and yes that is the stator (disconnected, bike running on battery only)

on the dc side, it reaches the expected 14v (dc, on panel) only when approaching 3000rpm

It's around 20 volts AC per 1k rpm. So as I said if he revs it up, will be around 80 volts.

4x20 is 80.

6-23???? If you want to insult me,get your crap together
