and yes that is the stator (disconnected, bike running on battery only)
Then that’s too low at the stator.

And come on everyone…it has nothing to do with the regulator or battery. It’s pretty damn Simple..7.2 Vac at the stator is too low…

Instead of guessing, do the proper diagnostics/trouble shooting, using the recommended testing procedures and go from there:

NOTE:
The above information, while credible, is worth what you paid for it and should not be considered gospel.
Do due diligence, research and have a H-D Field Service Manual before working on your bike.
You will probably have many opinions and suggestions presented; make sure you research the person providing the helpful information as there are some who provide good information that is useful and some who speak out of other orifices with gibberish. You will figure out this quickly.

True, type-o on my part. I'm able to admit when I make a mistake.
16-23 VAC.

And where was I wrong? Rev the bike up, you should get around 80 volts AC. Lots of bikes don't even have tachs. So I put a meter on it, rev it up. Not rocket ships here.

20 volts AC is ball park on many models.

im 95% confident it is.

just curious, every time i had a stator go kaputt it was clearly shorted to ground, this one is not. i did not even get low battery codes (yet ). all readings normal except for output voltage.

I've never heard anyone or read anywhere to rev the bike up to 4,000 rpms to test the stator.
So, you test the stator at 4,000 rpms?

You will find out when you open it up, my guess is the coils in the stator on the leg that is reading low VAC are shorted together.

Yes I rev it up to see what it can do. Figure you need to at least go 3k.

No tach, I just rev the bike up to se
e what it will output.

No like 4k is redline or crazy.
