Default Serious Wiring Problems: 2007 Fat Boy

Hi.

I just got this bike from a friend of mine. When he first got it, about a year ago, it was beautiful. Since then, when things needed addressing, fixing or repairing....well.... let's just say he couldn't afford to do things properly.

I've rebuilt the starter solenoid, since he had been starting it with a screw driver. Evidently, he had lighting problems. Wires cut and re-spliced everywhere. The main harness has a 10 pin? Plug for the rear lighting, which is smashed and a few wires have been cut and spliced. The headlight is broken, the beauty ring is gone, the turn signals all come on and stay on whenever you press any of the turn signal buttons, the horn doesn't work and only one high beam light comes on.... if at all.

I could really use a wiring diagram and some stand by help from someone better versed in wiring than I am.

I'm not an idiot. I am a mechanic, but, wiring....? Gets confusing..

Thanks for any help...

Best thing to do is Get a Factory Service Manual.

Get a factory service manual and an electrical diagnostics manual (they are as big as the service manual but much less expensive).

You can view a wiring diagram online, the easiest way to get there is to google: "2007 wiring diagram serviceinfo".

Wiring Diagrams

Got one... here's the thing, guys. It is listed as a 2007 Special Construction. Guy told me it was an 2007 Evo 1458cc 88ci. I don't think Harley made an Evo 88. With those specs, it is more likely a Twin Cam.

All I have is a Vin number. Everything is chromed and customized. No HD case number.... for all i know, the bike was constructed in 2007 and who knows what year the engine is!? It is carbuerated, not injected, has the old style ECM, no TCM or security module, no relays. Just a banged up 4-fuse block and one 20 Amp circuit breaker (which I changed to a 40 Amp).

As a matter of fact, I will just take a pic and upload in a minute.... maybe someone will know exactly what it is.

You are about to move from mechanic to electrician..

Sorry but "Special Construction" means all bets are off

Come on, man..... all this is is a Fat Boy with a bunch of chrome. I'm just not the greatest at wiring. I'm fairly certain this is a Twin Cam 88... i just need a little confirmation. Maybe a point in the direction to get this thing right instead of just tweeked and spliced to get it to run for a few more days....

I'm not a rich man. I'm a hard working one. 54 years old and have wanted a HD since i was 12. I've raised 5 kids, put 3 of them through college. I got both these bikes within a year or 2 of each other. The 77 i built from ground up.... this one just has about 5 more miles of wires. I couldn't tell a Dyna from an Evo or notice an FLH compared to a WXYZZ4.... Knowing what i have could be the greatest leap forward for me yet, I'm betting.

I'm not much of a drinker.... but it's 104 degrees out here and 204 under the collar. I'm gonna have a few to cool off and just dig deeper. Thanks guys.

That is not a twin cam engine.

And not a Harley engine, it is some brand of aftermarket Evo copy.

The ignition module is for `96 and later Evo.

I think I can see a CV Carburetor, and it has head breathers.

Pull the dash and show us what it looks like underneath, ignition switch etc.

Also a couple of pics of the switches on the handlebars.
