I have a 99 road king efi. Twice now when I flip the switch to shut it down the engine dies but all of my lights stay on. The 1st time it happened I was close to a dealer so I figured I’d just run it over there. Wouldn’t you know it when I got there and shut it down everything powered down like it should. Obviously they couldn’t diagnose a problem that I wasn’t having anymore. A couple of weeks later it happened again. It was 5 am and I was tired so I said to hell with it and went to bed. Later on I hooked it up to the charger since it was obviously dead. The battery is only 1 month old and that was the 1st time it had been drained. Now even though I have battery nothing happens when I turn the switch on. No lights no clicks no hum. Nothing. Any ideas?

I would somehow start troubleshooting the switch. Corroded connection? Frayed wire? Loose connection? But if you can pull the switch off, clean it and/or take a look at it. Does it make a 'click' sound when you move it?

Might be obvious but have you tried simply wiggling the ignition switch to see if you can get it to go off?

You better start with the ignition relay replacement. Looks like it is sticking. It's a cheap part you can buy in Autozone. It is located under the seat on the frame crossbar behind the battery. There are three relays there. Two on the one side and one on another. Yours is that one. It feeds the lights and instruments when ignition switch is on. Two others are fuel pump and ECM power.
