Default Stator Issue...

Hey all. Quick question.... On this three-phase stator.. There's one of the windings that was broken from a bolt pulling off the rotor.. Question is can I just re-crimp that and the rest of the stator be okay.? You see the marks where there was damage to another tower But I'm not sure with that damage how long this might last. Also it's this a delta winding? Any advice would be appreciated thanks..

No. The windings are covered in an insulating coating. Although they look bare the windings don't touch each other electrically. That stator is destroyed

You've got the work done, just replace it. No point in "wondering " every time you ride if it's OK? Its junk anyway.

Ok, that's what I thought. I just wanted to confirm... I'll rewind it myself... It's brand new.. never used.. I think it would be worth re-winding.. I believe it's 14 gauge.. is this correct? Thanks again..

It’s specially coated. You can’t rewind it. Its the same as having insulation on it but its a coating. Like I said the windings don’t electrically touch.

well, sorta depends.
mr. ed is correct and if there is a cross talk, the winding will be shortened and output effected and will show up as a dirty wave form.
as far as rewinding, yes it can be done, there is no rocket science to it.

I fully understand what your saying. I'm going to purchase a spool of 14 gauge and replace the windings that are damaged.. Maybe I should've been a little more clear on how I'm going to re-wind it.. Not rewind it...

Good luck with that.

It will cost you more and the 14 gauge you are going to buy does not have the special coating on it like Ed stated, unless of course you have access to electrical winding copper.

As previous stated, just replace it with a new one and be done with it.

This is a spare I have on the shelf... I work in a national lab where we make magnets for accelerators electron micron you name it, so that's not going to be an issue..

getting wire is no hill for a stepper. i do not do near what mr. fatboy does and yet the wire is in abundance on the internet, there will always be end spool and over stock wire and for cheap.
the important thing is the insulating varnish be correct for temperature and the chemicals it will be subjected to. doing the single phase out of the three is a good idea, just remember how you took it off, the cell phone is my friend.
ole swede saying
you cannot break it if it is broken
take my hat off to you for going out the box, not many left out there
