Question Setting PIN code on a new bike

Just took delivery of a new 2019 Softail Low Rider. Followed instructions in the Owners Manual for setting the PIN code and they didn't work. Can anyone who has recently set the PIN code on a new bike help me?

Was it like this?

2014 & NEWER H-D MOTORCYCLES

(scroll down for pre 2014)

Set/Change Security System Override PIN

(scroll down for how to use the pin code to override)

1. Select 5 digit code ( each digit being a 1 thru 9) and record it on the wallet card in the owners manual.

2. With an assigned FOB present, turn IGN key ON with the handlebar kill switch in the OFF position

3. Cycle the Handlebar Kill Switch to RUN - OFF - RUN - OFF - RUN

4. Press LEFT turn signal switch 2 times

5. Press RIGHT turn signal switch 1 time and release

*Current PIN will appear in the odometer. The first digit will be flashing

6. Enter first digit of the new PIN by pressing LEFT turn signal (x) times

7. Press RIGHT turn signal 1 time and release. The second digit will be flashing

8. Enter second digit of the new PIN by pressing LEFT turn signal switch (x) times

9. Press RIGHT turn signal 1 time and release. The third digit will be flashing

10. Enter the third digit of the new PIN by pressing LEFT turn signal (x) times

11. Press the RIGHT turn switch 1 time and release. The forth digit will be flashing

12. Enter forth digit of the new PIN by pressing LEFT turn signal switch (x) times

13. Press the RIGHT turn switch 1 time and release. The fifth digit will be flashing

14. Enter the fifth digit of the new PIN by pressing LEFT turn signal (x) times

15. Before the module rearms, switch the Handelbar Kill Switch to OFF AND turn Ignition Key to OFF to store the new pin in the module.

Using the PIN to Override the Security Alarm

(2014 & Newer Harley Davidson Motorcycles)

1. Turn the IGN key to IGNITION and immediately press and release the LEFT turn signal. The odometer will read 'ENTER PIN'

(NOTE: This will only work if the FOB is not present or dead)

2. Enter the first digit of your PIN by pressing the LEFT turn signal switch (X) times

3. Press the RIGHT turn signal switch 1 time to move to the next digit

4. Enter the second digit of your PIN by pressing the LEFT turn signal switch (X) times

5. Press the RIGHT turn signal switch 1 time to move to the next digit

6. Enter the third digit of your PIN by pressing the LEFT turn signal switch (X) times

7. Press the RIGHTturn signal switch 1 time to move to the next digit.

8. Enter the forth digit of your PIN by pressing the LEFT turn signal switch (X) times

9. Press the RIGHT turn signal switch 1 time to move to the next digit

10. Enter the fifth digit of your PIN by pressing the LEFT turn signal switch (X) times

11. Press the RIGHT turn signal switch 1 time to move to the next digit

12. Press the RIGHT turn signal switch one time and the security system alarm is turned off

Just an FYI, the service manual for 2014-2016 Touring gives an incorrect method for changing the PIN (it says cycle the ignition switch, which is wrong).

Drove me crazy, then I checked the owners manual, and it gives the correct procedure.

You need to be fairly quick when executing the first few steps. Any hesitation in between seems to cause failure. Took me a few attempts before I was successful. Followed the Owner's manual to the letter, just sped it up a bit.

Slightly different procedure with the keyless ignition. The OFF/RUN (kill) switch is the ignition switch.

Played with the procedure several times and found the right click speed and it worked. Thanks for the advice all submitted.

Another requirement that is not spelled out in the owners manual is that the "Ignition/Acc" switch must be in the "ignition" position. Process will not work in "Acc". Also, the only way it worked for me was to start with the "run/off" switch in the "off position" and toggle it as described by K Melancon in the first response on this thread. With the "run/off" switch in the "off" position, turn the "Ignition/Acc" switch to "ignition" then toggle "run/off/run/off/run" then IMMEDIATELY hit the left turn signal twice QUICKLY then the right signal quickly.

Hope this helps others that struggled with this based on the lack of clear info in the owners manual.

THANKS to everyone above!!

PS. My comments directly above are related to a '19 Ultra Limited.

Thanks all, this thread helped! I finally got around to trying to set the PIN on my ‘17 Limited.

- It was a PITA
- I wasn’t going fast enough in the first set up steps.
- As a literal engineer, I wasn’t sure what turning “off” the “engine kill switch” meant. If the function of the ‘kill switch” is to “kill” the engine...then, logically it is killing the engine when it is “on”.

well, anyhow now it’s set..l

That is a confusing way to look at it....

The switches have always been marked with lettering or symbols denoting Off and Run.

When the switch is off, it is off...The engine won`t run.

It`s called an off/run switch.
