Default Funky Charging Issue....

Hey, working on my friends 2013 Road king classic w/103"motor. I never did much with newer bikes but lots of experience on Evo's and shovels, I'm more mechanical than Electrical... Anyway's The ECM set code P0562 and at times at idle the battery light would come on but only at idle. When I measure the voltage at the battery when running at idle I get 13.2-13.4v and at 2000 rpm I only get 13.7v and will not go higher no matter what rpm the motor is at.. The battery was just replace 2 weeks ago and it was the same as the old battery so I don't think the battery is the issue... He has never been stranded with a dead battery. The charging system seems to just barely keep up at 13.7 but shouldn't it reach at least 14.0-14.2v at 2000 rpm? When I did the ac test on the stator from pin 1-2, 2-3, and 1-3 at idle I get 16-17 vac and above 2000 rpm I get over 43 vac.. Also each winding is between .1-.2 ohm resistance and there are no shorts to ground. I have power to the Regulator and the ground is also good. Now for the code to set the voltage needs to drop below 13.2v I've never seen it drop below 13.2v but never seen it go above 13.7v either.. If it was the regulator that was no good I would think that I would get nothing to the battery except battery voltage itself and eventually a dead bike.... Any ideas would be helpful.. Thanx.

I think you had a typo, P0562 will show when idle voltage drops below 12.2v and does not rise when speed is greater than 2,000rpm. The pages are from a 2010 manual, hope it helps.

Your system voltage is too low and indicating a problem with the charging system...you should read at least 14 vdc, minimum, across the battery terminals at any time the engine is running. I would expect to read at least 14.25 - 14.7 vdc with a healthy system.

You need to load test your battery and if the battery is good, then expect to be looking at a voltage regulator. You can check the stator AC output just to be sure, but my guess is the voltage regulator.

Hi, from my experience, I reckon you should test the stator (start the bike, unplug it's terminal and measure the AC curent... "16-23 VAC per 1000 rpm" - almost idle) you should have the same reading on all three combinations. If and only if the stator proves to be in good condition, you should consider changing the rectifier.
Pay special attention to the connectors (the 3 pin Dekko connector), maybe one of the pins does not make contact!

And now hear me with my funky charging issue (and mine is for real funky since I have all components in good condition) - Electra Glide 2014
I have a very frustrating issue with my 2 pin Dekko connector, since the pins are getting lose and losing contact... I'd like to change it but don't know what keywords to use when I kick search on google (I also read the poste about relocating the rectifier on a Dyna)... i hate my issue, can't go anywhere.
Best wishes!!!

Not an Evo guy, but I would trouble shoot this same as your Evo. What is coming out of stator? DC is not going up high enough, but need to know what is going in. I am guessimg 20 volts ac per 1000 RPM give or take 4 volts.

I think the other posters are on track with the OP's problem existing with the stator. Rockvaiv, you probably should start a new thread for your issue. Is what you are looking for part 8 in this diagram?
