Default cigarette lighter wiring

Ok, weird issue. I am setting up an amp on an 09 SG. I have previously installed one on my 07 SG. For the remote wire of the amp I splice in to the positive wire of the cigarette lighter. Here is where it gets weird. On the 07 SG the black wire is on the outside of the cigarette lighter (if you are looking at it from the front with the fairing off) and the orange wire goes into the middle and that is the wire I tapped into on the 07. However, on the 09 the orange wife is on the outside of the cigarette lighter and the black wire is in the middle. Thus the wire colors are reversed between the 2 years.

So, my question is, on the 09 is the orange wire still the positive?

Thanks

First I would check to see if the lighter works properly. It could be that someone switched the wires around, check with a multimeter or test light to see which is positive.

The lighter does work. I am hearing that the lighter doesn't care about polarity but if I were to try and use a charger it might care. For now I think I will swap out the wires. I can't imagine that a black wire would be my hot wire anyway.

Yes I would switch them. I had mine wrong when was adding a usb port in place of lighter. The usb port wouldnt work and the tap I had off it for a gps popped its fuse. A lighter is juat a long coil of wire shorting hot to ground but with enough resistance to not blow a fuse but heat up the wire. Makes sense that it would work either way.

The lighter isn't polarity dependent and doesn't care but you should.
The shell should always be negative.
