Low Fuel Light/Low Range Warning come up too early
Hi all
my Harley (2017 Breakout) has recently started throwing off a low fuel warning a bit too early.
I commute every day into the city so my fuel consumption is very frugal at the beginning/end but really bad when in town (London).
I have had the bike for a while now (done nearly 3,000 miles on it) and everything was fine up till last week.
I usually manage to cover around 200 miles with a tank. I fill it with 17.5-18 litres at around 190-195 miles.
Last week the reserve light AND the Low Range warning came on simultaneously after I left the bike parked all day at the office. Granted the last 5 miles are bad for fuel consumption (I assume the computers measure the last few minutes of fuel consumption and applies it to the fuel left in the tank) but I had done only 160 miles.
I found the closest petrol station but managed to only put 12.5 litres of fuel in.
The same happened yesterday.... the bike sat all day at the office and when I switched it on the fuel light and the low range warning came up. Again I had done 158 miles and when I filled it I could only put 13 Litres.
The range when full, on both occasions, went back up to only 160 miles (previously it would give me a predicted range of 190-205 miles). But stayed at 160 miles for the 30-40 miles before slowly decreasing as I was putting the miles on.
What are your thoughts? Computer going a bit funny?
What should I check?
I am not really bothered about the computer accuracy, and usually go by miles (my trips are all very similar so mileage does not vary much per tank), but the last thing I want is to have to push the bike....
Thank you for your help!
