Default Are LED Headlights too "Focused"?

While out riding and in my car, I have started to see more and more HDs with the LED Headlights. I've noticed that they are harder to spot from an angle than the normal Halogen bulbs. They seem to be brighter and more noticeable head on, but starting around 10 degrees from the side the intensity seems to drop increasingly as the angle of the beam increases.

Is it too focused or is it just me? I notice the Halogen headlights much sooner than the LEDs.

Very broadly there are two types of LED lights - aftermarket bulbs, and replacement light units. The bulbs are mostly pretty useless IMHO, as they do not provide a properly focussed light or a decent beam. Proper replacement lights, especially the good quality branded ones, are much better.

I can't say that I've particularly noticed Harleys, but there are a lot of vehicles of all types with very bright and badly adjusted or focussed lights. Some look as if they are on main beam. I have a set of three Trucklites, but haven't ridden in the dark yet, so can't comment on their beam shape.

Yeah, I suppose when I'm saying Harley, I'm noticing the newer bikes that are equipped with them. Did that again today on I-25 near Denver. Saw two newer baggers with LED headlights that I assume came from the factory.

But, there are those out there that look extremely bright that you can tell are after market of some sort. Don't know whether replacement bulb or entire unit.
