Default 2007 Road Glide Instruments Fuse Burning Out

Hello,I have a 2007 Road Glide. The 15 amp instruments fuse burned out. I replacedit; the new fuse burned out after two (2) miles of riding. I then replaced itwith a 30 amp fuse. It burned out immediately. I then replaced it with a 15 amp fuse. I waited about five (5) minutes to start the bike. The fuse burned out almost immediately after I started the bike. I noticed a part hanging out of thespeedometer / tachometer dash, HD: 74419-96, which I believe is the airtemperature sensor. Any ideas where to look to fix this issue would be greatlyappreciated. Many thanks, Chuck

@STLCHUCK I'm having the same exact problem. Did you find out what the cause was?

Default Fixed 2007 FLTR Road Glide Instuments Fuse Burning Out

Greetings,

The insulation on oil light positive wire and a negative wire were both rubbed through and touching the center steering column. The factory wiring harness cover had either slipped down or was not long enough. I taped both wires individually where they had their insulation rubbed through and taped the wiring harness in addition. It has lasted so far eight years and ~90K miles. Hope this helps.

Chuck

The orange wire went to the "Oil" light. The black wire was a ground.

Taped the orange wire and the black wire.

Close up.

Wrapped the entire wire harness.

Close up. Still OK after 8 years and about 90K miles.

Default "Bad Vibrations" Check The Bike's Wiring...

My 2007 FLTR Road Glide has almost 200K on the clock... It may be helpful to check the bike's wiring for rubbing that may short out especially between the inner and outer fairings. Occasionally I find wires that "lose" their insulation from vibrating against something close. Also, Doc Harley with Low Country Harley-Davidson has some great diagnostic videos on YouTube. Good luck

Thanks a ton STLChuck! I found two rubbed bare wires coming from two different gauges and taped them up but I should probably inspect those wires also.

Edit- Also, lots of great information on Low Country Harley-Davidson's YouTube!

Default Watertight Heat-Shrink Butt Connectors

Another option is cutting the affected wire and using heat shrink butt connectors. If possible, zip tie wires/ wiring harnesses away from objects that may rub through.
