Default Speedometer stops working, Turn signal cancel and engine cut off

Hello,

I have a 2009 Road King Classic, I recently started getting this problem, it comes and goes, I would be riding and I notice the speedometer not working, the turn signal won't cancel after you finish the turn, and the engine shakes as if only one piston is working or it is starved for fuel, sometimes the engine shuts down if it is not revving. The three things always happen with each other which makes me think it is an electrical issue.

The HD dealer tried to fix it but nothing showed on his computer, he replaced the sensor near the gear (the one responsible for shutting down the bike if it falls) but that didn't fix the problem.

Can anyone help? Did anyone have the same problem before? Thanks in advance

Little confused about what the dealer replaced. When you say the sensor near the gear, I'd think speed sensor but that does not shut the bike down if it falls over.

The speed sensor will contribute to all three of your symptoms (although the stalling is a bit drastic). The speed sensor will make the speedo inop, the turn signals won't cancel, and will tell the bike it is at rest when it is moving. In this instance, the ECM will not raise the idle as it does when the bike is moving so it may stall because the IAC is not as open as it should be.

So I would ask you if they replaced the speed sensor or the Turn Signal Module because the TSM is what kills the bike if it tips over.

Thanks a lot Ed, the speed sensor is what they changed, appears the one they put is either faulty or could it be a wiring problem?

Well it could be a sensor (i doubt it if it's a new sensor with an identical problem), a connection (I would suspect this before the sensor - check the sockets and pins) circuits, an intermittent open/short circuit, it could be many things. It could even be over charging - any popped bulbs? The speed sensor has three wires, all of which can be the cause. The dealer does have a tool you can use to find out whats happening. THey have an accessory for their digital tech that can be strapped to your bike, then when the problem happens you hit a button and it records. You can also record data if you have a SERT or SEPST (I don't remember your year)

THen they (or you if you used the SERT/SEPST) can look at the data file and see if the speed signal dropped out, what the voltage was - basically every sensor on the bike will be captured.

Thanks a lot again Ed,

I will have them check all the wiring and electrical plugs and cables. They do not have the diagnostic tool nor do I have a SERT. But I will keep bugging them until they find the problem.
Your reply was very helpful by the way, keep it up my friend :-)
