You are on the right track, something is inadvertently introducing power into that wire.

Try this: unplug the connector for the right hand control switches, set up the meter to read ohms.

On the connector half that goes to the handlebar switches, touch the probes to the white/brown wire, and the red/blue wire and see what resistance there is.

If you want one last test, unplug the connector going to the right handle bar put your volt meter on ohms and check continuity between the two wires, then check continuity between those and the handle bar.

I just wish I new for sure that the problem lies in the bars. Im afraid of possibly damageing the TBW unit by pulling on it to get everything out.

If I pull them back out, redo everything and the problem still exists, I'll probably jump off the highest bridge

Looks like Dan and I were typing at the same time, do you know how to check for continuity?
Maybe Dan can explain the procedure better than me.

OK let me take a stab at it turn the dial down to the bottom right to where the funny looking symbol looks like a diod next to the 200 ohms.
Touch the two probes together it should buzz say 1.
This is continuity. Place one probe on one wire the other on the other wire we were talking about in the connector going to the right bar and see if it beeps.
Then touch either wire and touch the handle bar and see if it beeps goes to one.
If you have continuity then the two wires are wired together.
I don't remember the wire colors.

Got the beeping down. Im not sure about the rest. touching brn/wht wire inside the plug coming out of bars, then other tester prong to bars themselves, no beep

OK put one on the red and blue wire the other on the brn/white wire in the connector.
If no beep then do the same thing in the other side of that connector, the bike side.
