How Many CCA is best?
So since I need to replace my 04 Fatboy's battery. I'm seeing Cold Cranking Amps (CCA) ranging from 170 up to 540. I would think more is better but is there a magic number that's best? Less than 270? 360? 400?
Does anyone know what the CCA for the HD battery is for comparison? Oh and I'm not looking to get another HD battery (they haven't been lasting long in my bike, 2 yrs avg). And yes, I do keep the bike on a Battery Tender.
I did see for sale the Battery Tender BTL24A360C LifePO4 battery for about $130 with 360 CCA. Anyone have this battery?

Battery development has moved on quite a lot in the short years since your bike was made, hence some of the numbers you have seen. I have just ordered a new AGM battery for my 2007 Buell, to replace the 200CCA original. If you have a service manual it may tell you what yours was when new, but I guess around that number. I've paid a little extra for a 240CCA replacement. My Glide, however, has a 107" crate engine and I have recently bought a 360CCA battery to wake it up!
The way I arrived at 240 for mine was simply looking at various battery websites and putting in my bike's details. They offered around 200/220, with 240 as an upgrade. Hope that helps!

You've got other electrical problems if your batteries are only lasting two years. In that case, it won't matter how much you spend on a battery, it too will drain in the same time period.
I used a battery tender for 3 months once, only because I was sure my starting problem was the battery. After a lot of aggravation I found out it wasn't the battery(s). Before I got that tender, I'd gone 5 years on the original battery and came to find out that same battery is *still* good and is now starting my riding lawn mower. Tenders are snake oil in *most* cases, IMO.
Next...in the simplest terms, *YES*, the more CCA's a battery has, the better! You'll give up some of those though because of the dimensions of the battery that'll fit in any said situation. If you can find a battery that has 700 CCA's and one with 370 CCA's and they both have the same dimensions and fit in your bike, run, don't walk, to get that 700 CCA battery - and then tell the rest of us where you got it!
