2002 fxdwg
Hello,
Some awesome looking machines in here.
I keep my work in progress hosted on one of my own servers located at evilson.com
I just purchased this 2002 FXDWG to keep from commuting in my Suburban everyday from San Diego to Los Angeles (121 miles). The 405 is among the worst freeways in the world for traffic. This should cut my time down and my cost of fuel. I didn't want to go with another Jap bike because I have been riding those my whole life and it was time for a change.
Ideas welcome!

Looks sweet now. Can't wait to take possesion of my '13 big blue pearl Superglide Custom in the spring when I get back from the sand box. I will probably upgrade the seat so it's more comfortable for the wife, and add a sissy bar and pad to hold my ruck sack for travelling. I should think about bags too maybe...

I bought myself a copy of Adobe Lightroom for Christmas and spent some time over the weekend tweaking on some of my fave pics from the last few years of the scooters on my trips. Lightroom can work magic on RAW files with its capacity to selectively apply adjustments while in the RAW format. If you’ve attempted to tweak RAW files you’ve probably experienced how the somewhat limited dynamic range of your digital camera blows out your skies to keep your subject properly exposed, etc. In Lightroom you can adjust the skies (or whatever else) separately and really get some amazing results from shots that otherwise would have just been crap.
Unfortunately, I shot a lot of my pics in jpeg only – gave up on shooting RAW for a long time. Some of these are tweaks of those jpegs that worked out well and some suffered from not having RAW copies (the adjustments caused bad distortion/pixilation).
I carry a Canon G Series Powershot in a belt pouch while riding usually in the event I come across a backdrop that looks like it would make a nice pic and feel like messing with it. I finally bought a decent printer when Ebay was flooded with them a few years ago that prints out 13” x 19” that I like to frame of some of these shots.
I’ve stepped up to a Canon G1X recently and started shooting RAW again to realize the full potential and now that hard drive space is less of an issue. Love my G1X btw! Amazing increase in level of detail.
One of my all-time favorite shots before tweaking in Lightroom

After a little Lightroom tweaking

Another shot from a New Mexico trip that I printed just like this
New Mexico 119 by Fastfwd01, on Flickr
Gave it a little boost in Lightroom
New Mexico 119-2 by Fastfwd01, on Flickr
This was shot in RAW and made an incredible save from the original lighting conditions

I’m impressed anyway what a little time in Lightroom did for it

Not the best example of what the G1X can do, but this year’s trip to see the fall color with a blanket RAW tweak applied to it

Then with Lightroom – made the trees ‘pop’ a little more than before; probably could have done the same with Canon Digital Photo Professional that comes with the camera or regular Photoshop, but Lightroom is easier to use I think and gives the flexibility to selectively tune the ‘color temp’ for example – the skies cooler and the trees warmer, etc.

Frying Pan River Road outside Aspen – loved those red rocks, but had cloudy skies the day I finally took pictures
Colorado Summer 2012 371 by Fastfwd01, on Flickr
Could use a little more finesse probably, but pulled a pretty amazing save out of it – got my skies back and maybe exaggerated the rocks, but not by much

Probably the best pic of the bunch of my Colorado trip; Independence Pass outside Aspen – really challenging lighting conditions
Colorado Summer 2012 347 by Fastfwd01, on Flickr
I’m still working on this one, but Lightroom is going to make this a far better image than would otherwise be possible – bring those skies back and still need to work on getting the rest exposed better, but getting there (you can save ‘snapshots’ of your attempts to go back and work on later which is pretty cool if you start over then want to go back where you got it too.) I’ve tried multiple runs at this shot before

Made a clean run at adjusting that problem pic from Independence Pass for a few minutes just now – this time selectively applied the color temp adjustment to just the clear skies with masking turned on to not impact the clouds with that adjustment and brought those trees up. Clouds look a little better this pass.
I don’t have the best monitor to judge by, but this looks better on this monitor anyway. It prints off way darker than what my monitor makes images look even when I adjust the brightness/contrast down. This might be closer….
If anyone knows what you’re talking about then feel free to chime in how it looks on your monitor and make suggestions.

This is one good looking Fat Bob IMHO ...
Really like the olive color with the red tank badges ...
The handlebar/riser combo looks good and seems functional ... I like the Wide Glide rear fender and Street Bob seat ... battery box bag ...
Nice work, Joe ...
