Changing Tire-Wheelset Size issues
I've got a a 2007 St. Bob which has the unusual rear size of 17....and a front of 19.
I want red powdercoat rims for the old school bobber look but I'm having serious problems finding someone who can lace the wheels at a decent price. The other alternative is to buy a new wheelset which don't seem to come in a 17.....What's the "downside" of going with a 21 on the front and a 16 on the rear on this bike...what will have to be adjusted after switching sizes...speedometer etc.......
Thanks,
Scott

RE: Changing Tire-Wheelset Size issues
I would suggest going with a 16 or 18 rear........... You can make up differences with tire sizes.
A 16" would probably cause you to use a 80 series (possibly), and an 18" would send you looking for a low profile (50/55) series tire.
Look at the manufactures web sites for tire specs, and try to match tire circumferances or outside diameters to match the speedo ratio.
Just my .02
Good luck,

RE: Changing Tire-Wheelset Size issues
the only problem I know of is finding a 160 or larger 16 inch white wall tire . I currently have a Akront 16x4.25 inch rim that I plan on lacing on my stock hub so I can run white walls ... so tireater why wont it work ? rim size wont affect the overall width and height of the tire ... the above picture is a newer dyna with a 16/21 combo . patiently awaiting a reply

RE: Changing Tire-Wheelset Size issues
Sorry about wait...mock up 16" wheel and see if brake caliper will fit - with 4.25" you may be golden -
With 5.5 - it won't fit a 17" WO grinding caliper(16" NO WAY). 18" tires are pricy !!! ($200 +++)
It also becomes a large pain to change tire...as you have to disconnect brake line and bleed system when you change tire..
I put on a PM 2 piece rear brake so I could disconnect brake before changing tire - no more bleeding...
It seems to me you are going for the smaller tire look - this may make it much easier for caliper install with more tire choices...
GOOD LUCK...I LIKE IT !!!
