Default 103" cams on 96"

This seems like a dumb question to me but i have to ask. if it has been asked before please direct me to it apologies. will putting stock 103" cams in a tc96 add any power or performance or would that screw up your powerband? Thanks

Generally speaking, bigger displacement engines can handle bigger cams, so you need to try to match the cams to the engine being considered. That being said, there are a lot of cams out there that have been used in different size engines, so need to know what your goals are, how you ride, and what you are running for exhaust, etc to pick out a good cam match.

and, not a dumb question.

Ok, because i've been seing alot of 103 cams for sale and i was wondering what i could get out of them with my super glide. i would eventually like to put cams in anyways and have the full "stage 1" i/e/tuner and eventually i would like to get a thundermax and possible a 106" kit. just wondering if a cheaper set of 103 cams would grab me some extra power. i generally like to ride mid to upper rpms but dont want to lose and low end from what i have now.

Here is a problem, cams great for your 96" will be not so great for a 106"/107" that will most likely(and should!) have higher compression. Best plan is to do it all together or else get some new cams when you do the big bore.

Also try not to compromise on cams just because you find a good deal somewhere. Cams are so important and need to match up as perfectly as possible to your goals.

Here is an example, right now maybe Andrew 48s might be a great choice for a 96", but after a Big Bore the Andrews 54s would be much better because you upped the compression.

The exception would be for low rpm builds that do not need a lot of extra compression, then you could probably be happy keeping the same cams because you are not going to raise the compression as much. But you already said you like to hit the mid to high rpms, so you will want to raise the compression with a Big Bore so you can get the cams that excel in that area.
