Wheel bearings - converson
I posted in the wheel tech forum, but going to post my question here as well.
Anybody convert over to using a slightly wider double-row wheel bearing?
I've seen talk of it, in other places and I rather like the idea. Since I'm putting parts together for some front end work, thought I'd take a look at the wheel bearings and if there was any alternative.
I know one alternative to the 9276A has been the Timken WP205PP, which is still a single row design (15mm wide). Where the 9276A is the 'deep groove' replacement for the POS 9276.
I'd like some comments about the Timken 5205KE, which is 5.6mm wider, but which is a double-row bearing.
My thoughts are that shortening the internal bearing spacer, and possibly shaving down the wheel spacers as well, might allow it.

I use the SKF version of the 5205 in my low rider. The 1" bearings used in 06 and 07 Dyna's were 20.6mm wide, so the wheels bearing bores were the correct depth and inner sleeve correct length. The FL softail front end I have already had a 25mm axle, no work there. The rear axle was simple, buy new axle, nut, washer, and wheel spacers.
If you have an 08 or later it may or may not be easy. I've heard some wheels still have the deeper bearing pockets, and some don't.
Good luck
